Overview

Position Overview

At Unified Door & Hardware Group (UDHG), the Union Apprentice Year 1 is an entry-level to intermediate position within the carpentry trade that combines hands-on jobsite experience with structured classroom and shop training. Apprentices work alongside experienced carpenters while developing the technical, mathematical, and practical skills necessary to progress toward Journeyman status.

 

The apprenticeship program consists of thousands of hours of supervised on-the-job training combined with classroom instruction designed to develop well-rounded construction professionals capable of performing high-quality carpentry work in commercial construction environments.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities
Installation Support
  • Assist Journeyman Carpenters and Foremen with the installation of carpentry scopes including blocking, backing, casework, millwork, doors, frames, hardware, toilet accessories, specialties, and other architectural elements
  • Measure, cut, and assemble materials in accordance with project drawings and specifications
  • Learn proper installation techniques and construction layout practices under the guidance of experienced carpenters
 
Tools & Equipment
  • Safely operate and maintain carpentry hand tools and power tools.
  • Handle and transport construction materials and equipment as required to support installation activities.
 
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on construction sites
  • Follow OSHA regulations, union safety standards, and contractor safety protocols at all times
 
Training & Skill Development
  • Participate in union apprenticeship training sessions, coursework, and required educational programs
  • Develop proficiency in construction math, measurement, and layout techniques
  • Follow direction from Journeymen and Foremen while demonstrating initiative and a strong work ethic
 
Additional Responsibilities & Miscellaneous
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support field operations and corporate objectives
 
 
Qualifications
  • Active enrollment in a recognized Union Carpenter Apprenticeship Program
  • Strong foundational skills in:
    • Basic mathematics
    • Measurement and geometry
    • Spatial reasoning
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting, climbing, kneeling, and standing for extended periods
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical carpentry skills in a structured apprenticeship environment
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with construction tools and equipment
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings or blueprints
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment to professional development

Compensation

The listed pay range reflects the expected base rate for this position. Within the range, individual pay may vary based on experience, qualifications, and work location within state.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.

  • Base: $25.20-$28.20 per hour
  • Equity: This role is not eligible for equity opportunities, awards or grants
